Tick Bites and Unexpected Calls

It’s been sort of a weird week for me.

I’ve been in a really good mood, for the most part-despite the fact that I have really been under the weather. I’ve had some really bad stomach issues (which isn’t new for me) since this weekend, but I’ve also been having fever on and off for the last week or so along with a horrible headache and strange aches in my joints. My inner arm feels a little like it does after you get a shot, and the backs of my knees keep cramping.

Still, I’ve been determined not to let it get me down.

What didn’t help the situation? The fact that I pulled a tick off of my leg didn’t help my hypochondria.

I did refrain from looking anything up on Web MD, and I think that’s a huge accomplishment for me.

I know what you’re thinking, and no I don’t think I have Lyme Disease or Rocky Mountain Fever. I know that there is only 3% chance that the tick was infected so I don’t have anything to worry about.

It’s just a little bug.

(My virus not the tick)

Moving on.

About a year ago, I was in pretty bad wreck with my boyfriend. We were hit from behind by someone who was texting and driving on IH 35. Long story short, his car was totaled and we mostly ok, although it did result in me having some pretty severe back problems and several months of going to a chiropractor.

The whole ordeal was more annoying than anything, but the insurance company was great and took care of my bills and were very good at following up to make sure I was taken care of.

Yesterday I got a call from the insurance company, who I hadn’t heard from in over a year. I figured they just wanted to follow up a final time to make sure everything was well so they could close the case. Turns out, they were wondering why I never cashed the check they sent me.

I almost didn’t answer that call. It kind of feels weird that I am receiving money from something that happened so long ago, but since I am struggling financially lately, it really couldn’t come at a better time.

Since I’m all over the place today-here’s a few things I think you should know about.

Clean Cause Water:clean

For those of you who are listeners of Dudley and Bob with Matt, you probably heard Wes Hurt on as a People of the Neighborhood. For those of you who aren’t, this is a really awesome product with an even awesomer cause. Wes is extremely open about his past struggles with addiction and his road to recovery. He is the creator of Hey Cupcake, and has now created this line of water which helps to cover the costs of recovery services, including rehabilitation and counseling.

Most of you probably know that I have been sober now for almost 2 years.

Sober Counter

I’m really lucky that I have had the resources and support to get me through the hard times. Not everyone is so lucky. I think that’s why this product really hit me where it counts. Not only does buying the product go to help out those in recovery, Wes also employs locals who are in the recovery process. It’s new, so you can’t yet find it everywhere-but they do offer a lot of cool products on their website!

The Power of Habit:Why we do what we do in life and business – Charles Duhigg

power of habit

I just finished this book, and I would recommend it to anyone who is trying to instill better habits in their life. I know it’s something I’m working on. I’m not a HUGE fan of self-help books, though I’ve recently read a few that I really connected with. What I enjoy even more is a book that takes a scientific look at our brains, and gives proof and research to self help methods. The Power of Habit offers a lot of insight as to how to make habits, as well as to the importance of them.

Recovery Warriors

I know most of my readers don’t have an eating disorder (thank goodness) but most of you know someone who does, and a lot of you are affected by it. Recovery Warriors is quickly becoming one of my favorite resources for eating disorder recovery. They have a podcast, a blog, and a lot of great links. They also recently put out some awesome guided meditations in their online store. I can’t say enough good things about all the wonderful material and resources that Recovery Warriors provide!

Ok, good. I don’t want to be one of those people who tells horror stories about a friend…but I do have a friend right now that is going through some serious life threatening issues because of a tick bite. We don’t really have a big tick problem in Florida, so I didn’t realize how bad it could be until I started to hear about everything going on with him (he lives in Upstate New York now). I’m glad you have something that can help combat it. Stay safe. :)
