Happy Friday, the good people of the internet.
I’m in disbelief that it’s already here. Not only was this a short week, but it was also really fast. I was also really tired and didn’t feel especially productive, but hey, I’m still here.
Next week is probably going to be more crazy, and even though I have the weekend ahead of me, I’m already anticipating anxiety and stress. Foreshadowing stress that hasn’t even happened yet is the worst. Shut up brain.
I looked over my May goals, and I’m incredibly ashamed at how much I DIDN’T do this month. I’m writing it off partially to being sick, and partially because my sister has been staying with us which ended up being a positive change in my routine, though not in the ways I had planned.
A few weeks ago, I went on and on about my love of the rain and the stormy weather. I’d like to take all of that back. I’m over you, rain! Honestly, that’s probably been the biggest deterrent in my productivity. I haven’t been able to work out at lunch, and I’ve felt inclined to spend an unhealthy amount of time on the couch refreshing my weather app and obsessing over incoming storms.
*Weather-
I just bitched about the weather, but I have to also give it some praise. Our lakes our finally getting up to normal and although it’s been a little excessive, Texas did need the rain. We’ve also had a few sunny days and it’s cooler than it normally is in late May, so it’s not all terrible.
I hear we may have an all around milder summer, which makes me more happy than you know.
Also, terrible storms bring beautiful sunsets.
*Family-
This weekend is my grandmother’s 90th birthday. I have family coming in town from as far as Washington, and I’m so excited to see everyone and celebrate my grandmother’s life. We all wrote something in a book that we published for her and it’s really made me feel grateful for the love I have in my family.
*Sleep-
This is the first week in a while that I feel I am actually getting enough sleep. I have had a lot of problems in that department recently, and I can’t tell you how much I’ve needed it. I wake up every morning at 4:15 am and usually don’t fall asleep until closer to midnight. This week I’ve been in bed by ten almost every night. It’s still probably not enough, but I’m getting there, and I can feel the difference.
Dog snuggles also help immensely in this department.
Reading– Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen
This isn’t a new book, but I’m really surprised I hadn’t come across it before now. I absolutely love anything that’s remotely categorized as “magical realism,” and this book definitely fits that category. I’m only about half way through, but this is the first time in a while that I’ve felt completely submersed in a book.
Listening- Dawes-All Your Favorite Bands
I’m not nearly as hip when it comes to music as I was a few years ago. In fact, I’m usually the last to know the up and coming tunes.
The one band that I’m always on top of is Dawes. I would say that they are hands-down my all time favorite band of the 21st century. They have a new album coming out next week and pre-released 2 songs. Both of which I have been listening to non-stop this week.
Eating-
Brisket. Lots of brisket. Brisket for every meal. And I could keep going like this for weeks. Matt made this amazing brisket this weekend and it was so huge that we were sure we wouldn’t even put a dent in it.
We were very wrong.
There’s so much I could put in this category this week I don’t even know where to start. I didn’t work out once. I ate ice cream four times. My “to do” list has gotten out of hand. I have a pile of clean clothes the size of everest on my couch that I haven’t had the time or energy to put away.
But you know what? It’s ok. I don’t have to do everything. It will get done and everything will be ok.
For now, F@ck It!
