Weekend Snapshots 5-17-15

Weekend Snapshots 5-17-2015

First off, I want to say that my heart goes out to those effected by the shooting in Waco.

My home town has gone through a lot in just my lifetime, and has really come a long way to overcome the stigma created by the Branch Dividian/David Koresh debacle in the early 90’s. The last thing it ┬áneeds is more tragedy, but I am proud of the way that the police and responders acted quickly to keep the citizens safe.

My weekend was both busy and relaxing. I got a lot done, and I also allowed myself to have a quite a bit of downtime, which was really nice for a change. Unfortunately, both my boyfriend and my sister came down with my illness, but at least we were all feeling under the weather together.

Friday night my sister and I decided to go see Ex Machina.

ex machina

I love a good science fiction movie, and this is probably one of the best I’ve seen in a long time. The acting was phenomenal, and the story was was so well written. I’d recommend it to anyone who loves a good psychological-sci fi, or really just anyone who likes movies.

We opted not to go to the Alamo Drafthouse for this one. I love the Drafthouse, but I have a secret theater that I like to go to when I want to avoid crowds or having to my tickets days ahead of time. We also opted to forgo dinner for a healthy portion of butter popcorn. I did not regret this decision.

Saturday morning we woke up early and headed to the down town farmer’s market. We took Stevie and spent a good amount of time people-watching and ogling over fresh veggies.

After that, we decided to go check out the Renegade Craft Fair. I didn’t know that this was even a thing, but it was essentially etsy in physical form. It was a bit overwhelming, but was really cool to see hundreds of booths of homemade goods and jewelry.

We worked up quite an appetite shopping, so filled up on a delicious Cuban Sandwich at Habana Restaurant on South Congress.

My one purchase at the Farmer’s market was a couple of vinegars-one for sipping and one for dressing. We spent the rest of the afternoon sipping smoothies, and a delicious drink I invented with sparkling water, mint, and a few drops of lemon vinegar.

We also planted some lavender and mint, which I’m probably a little too excited about. I’ve never had much of a green thumb, but I’m determined to keep these alive through the summer.

I spent the entire day on Sunday at a commercial audition workshop, which was a lot more fun than I was anticipating. I came out of it feeling a lot more confident and ready to book some work.

Now, we’re back at Monday and I’m still happy at having such a wonderful weekend with my sister! I hope you all had happy weekends, and that your week is beautiful!

That renegade craft fair sounds really cool. Now I really want to go to one (even though I would probably feel completely overwhelmed too).

Also, I don’t have much experience with lavender, but I have had the same mint plant for about 4 years now. It grows like a weed. It’ll die off in the winter and pop back up again in the Spring.

The popcorn smell always gets me when I walk into theaters. Last time I wanted to smuggle my own popcorn in (because smuggling in my own food is half the fun of going to the movies), but my boyfriend was all stodgy and disapproving, so I ate some before we went. I still feel like I beat them!

I want an herb garden! But I’ve been too chicken thus far. I’m nearly certain I will kill it.

I don’t like sci-fi or thrillers, but this movie caught my attention the other day. I’m glad you enjoyed it! It’s so fun that y’all have farmer’s markets and craft fairs to peruse on a weekend- wish we had that!

Interesting. Maybe I will watch that movie bootleg.
I didn’t just say that on the Internet, FBI.
I’m not the one in the theaters with a camera after all….

What a jam packed weekend! The drink sounds delicious and fun – sparkling water and a little lemon vinegar definitely make sense!
Sigh, your Cuban sandwich makes me hungry. I LOVE Cuban sandwiches and that is going on my list as a must eat when I’m back in NY.

Good luck in any upcoming auditions!

Thanks for stopping my and have a lovely week!

Looks like a fun weekend, lady. My heart hurts for all of those in Waco, what a crazy out of a movie brawl turned shooting. I’m so glad no one innocent was hurt, but still grieve for the families that lost a loved one.

I love going to the Drafthouse, it’s such a unique way to watch a movie or a show.

That’s why I chose mint! I hear it’s really easy to care for. We’ll see!

  • http://www.carissajaded.com Carissa

Haha I’ve smuggled just about everything into the movies. It is really fun. But I have a soft spot for the movie popcorn. You can’t get that kind at home.

  • http://www.carissajaded.com Carissa

It wasn’t too sci-fi-ey or too thriller-ey. It was more of a character study than anything. You should give it a shot!

  • http://www.carissajaded.com Carissa

Ha, I’m guilty of bootlegging a movie or five. I won’t tell.

I know it’s absolutely horrible. Waco needs a break so bad. The drafthouse is the best. I love the quote-alongs and singalongs the best.

  • http://www.carissajaded.com Carissa

Butter Popcorn should be it’s own food group.
