First off, I want to say that my heart goes out to those effected by the shooting in Waco.
My home town has gone through a lot in just my lifetime, and has really come a long way to overcome the stigma created by the Branch Dividian/David Koresh debacle in the early 90’s. The last thing it needs is more tragedy, but I am proud of the way that the police and responders acted quickly to keep the citizens safe.
My weekend was both busy and relaxing. I got a lot done, and I also allowed myself to have a quite a bit of downtime, which was really nice for a change. Unfortunately, both my boyfriend and my sister came down with my illness, but at least we were all feeling under the weather together.
Friday night my sister and I decided to go see Ex Machina.
I love a good science fiction movie, and this is probably one of the best I’ve seen in a long time. The acting was phenomenal, and the story was was so well written. I’d recommend it to anyone who loves a good psychological-sci fi, or really just anyone who likes movies.
We opted not to go to the Alamo Drafthouse for this one. I love the Drafthouse, but I have a secret theater that I like to go to when I want to avoid crowds or having to my tickets days ahead of time. We also opted to forgo dinner for a healthy portion of butter popcorn. I did not regret this decision.
Saturday morning we woke up early and headed to the down town farmer’s market. We took Stevie and spent a good amount of time people-watching and ogling over fresh veggies.
After that, we decided to go check out the Renegade Craft Fair. I didn’t know that this was even a thing, but it was essentially etsy in physical form. It was a bit overwhelming, but was really cool to see hundreds of booths of homemade goods and jewelry.
We worked up quite an appetite shopping, so filled up on a delicious Cuban Sandwich at Habana Restaurant on South Congress.
My one purchase at the Farmer’s market was a couple of vinegars-one for sipping and one for dressing. We spent the rest of the afternoon sipping smoothies, and a delicious drink I invented with sparkling water, mint, and a few drops of lemon vinegar.
We also planted some lavender and mint, which I’m probably a little too excited about. I’ve never had much of a green thumb, but I’m determined to keep these alive through the summer.
I spent the entire day on Sunday at a commercial audition workshop, which was a lot more fun than I was anticipating. I came out of it feeling a lot more confident and ready to book some work.
Now, we’re back at Monday and I’m still happy at having such a wonderful weekend with my sister! I hope you all had happy weekends, and that your week is beautiful!
